FAQS

Clothing

Whether you’re coming for osteopathy or acupuncture, it is easier if you wear loose clothing so that it does not impede the examination of your limbs or back. But it is important to me that you feel comfortable, safe and empowered to move freely.

Chaperone

If you would feel more comfortable being accompanied by someone, you are welcome to bring a spouse, friend or colleague with you.

What should I expect from my first visit?

Prior to your appointment, you will be asked to complete an intake form when you make your appointment which gives us your administrative details, some details about your current problem and your medical history. It will also ask for your consent to hold your data and that the clinic requires a minimum of 24 hours' notice if you cannot attend your appointment.

What should I bring?

• Medical reports

• x-rays and imagery

• list of medications

• results of previous blood/urine tests if applicable

At the appointment

I will go through your intake form with you and will ask further questions that includes your injury history, and possible further medical history. Gathering this information helps me to build up a picture of your problem for me to not only begin to form a diagnosis, it helps inform me through the examination phase of the session, creating a pathway for the most appropriate tests to be carried out which may include looking at your movement patterns, mobility, flexibility, and strength in and other relevant techniques specific to your needs. All findings will be discussed with you with the opportunity to ask questions at any point.

The examination is with your full consent and can be stopped at any point. If acupuncture is more relevant for you, I will look at your pulses and tongue. This gives me information about your background health.

Next steps

After establishing a diagnosis, I will explain my findings and the treatment options that are available to you. I will also give you an explanation of how many sessions you will need. If you are happy, we will go ahead with treatment and start you on the road to recovery as soon as possible.

What are the types of treatment that I might receive?

Treatment is hands-on but gentle. Involving a combination of techniques, depending on your needs. All of this will be discussed with you prior to starting treatment.

It may include some of the following:

  • A range of soft tissue massage techniques that can relieve pain, decrease tension in muscles, and give you the freedom to adopt a more natural, free posture.

  • Articulation and mobilisation to improve the function and range of movement in your joints.

  • Acupuncture needling to reduce pain, stimulate healing and improve wellbeing

Moxibustion – a form of heat using the burning on Chinese mugwart (not direct onto the skin) to reduce muscle tension.

Cupping reduces muscle pain and tension and stimulates blood flow.

  • Relaxation that enables the nervous system to calm, allowing you to breathe more slowly and deeply.

  • Tailored exercise/rehabilitation programmes for you to do at home, that can further enhance your progress and give you the ability to take control of your problem.

  • Advice about aspects of your lifestyle or movement which may be helpful in allowing you to increase your potential and experience less pain.
