This ancient system of healing originated in China and other Eastern countries, along with other disciplines such as Chinese Herbal medicine and the ancient practice of cultivating vital life-force through various techniques such as Qi Gong.

Acupuncture works to help maintain your body’s equilibrium. It involves the insertion of very fine needles into specific points on the body to regulate the flow of ‘qi’, your body’s vital energy. This ‘Qi moves through a series of channels in the body.

When qi can become disturbed, depleted or blocked, by a number of lifestyle and environmental reasons, it can result in some symptoms of pain and illness.

Acupuncture is not simply a pain relief technique. By inserting fine needles into appropriate acupuncture points, they both stimulate the local targeted healing response and mobilise messenger chemicals from the brain, to kick start repair.

Don’t be put off, these needles bear little resemblance to those used for injections or blood tests. They are so much finer, in fact not much more than the width of a hair and are inserted quickly and painlessly.

Generally during treatment, you will have little awareness that there is a needle in place. Some heat around the needle may be used to help stimulate the area, or other adjunctive techniques such as cupping to reduce muscle tension and improve blood flow.

You may or may not feel the benefit straightaway. The number of appointments needed varies from person to person but some positive response to treatment can be expected within four sessions.
